How to recover when you lose your train of thought in your #speech or #presentation


You are making a point or answering a question – then you lose your train of thought and you can’t remember where you were going or the point you were making,

You feel embarrassed. The harder you try to get back on track, the harder it is to remember what you were going to say. You feel as if all eyes are on you – judging your communication “train wreck” – and it all started off so well. Every second you freeze and fumble seems like an “excruciating eternity”.


Luckily, there are ways you can cope – simple reflexes you can develop.

Here are a few tips so you can be prepared and recover smoothly

1. Work out an “end point” – and stop when you reach it
2. Pause before your make a point or answer a question. During that pause – work out your “end point”.
