#Writing Tips: What “Margaritaville” has in common with “The Christmas Song” – chestnuts roasting and shrimp boiling


If you like writing – you’ll probably enjoy these writing tips inspired by this time of year.

It’s summer in Australia and Christmas vacation time – and a break from my normal gig as a writing coach and trainer.

I’m on a beach vacation with my  family and I’ve been enjoying listening to Christmas favourites like “The Christmas Song” and my mandatory summer, beach holiday music – including Jack Johnson – and Jimmy Buffett.

I Loooooove the power of good lyrics – like in “The Christmas Song” – you know…Chestnuts roasting on an open fire…!

Jack Frost nipping at your nose

Yuletide carols being sung by a choir

And folks dressed up like Eskimos

I also dig Jimmy Buffett’s “Margaritaville”.

Then, this morning it hit me! What these two of my favourite songs have in common!
